With 100th Day in Office Around the Corner, Texas Is Back on Track Thanks To President Biden
AUSTIN, Texas — On Thursday, President Biden will mark his 100th day in office — traditionally a key milestone during which presidential achievements are held up to extra scrutiny. However, this year, the outlook is clear: in less than 100 days in office, President Biden has gotten our state and our country back on track.
Because of President Biden’s strong leadership to get money in families’ pockets, get Americans vaccinated, and beat back the pandemic, Texas — and the rest of the country — is finally starting to turn the corner on COVID-19. Last week, the U.S. celebrated the news that Americans have received a whopping 200 million vaccine doses. That number is double President Biden’s original goal of 100 million doses in the first 100 days — and a goal the Biden administration still met early, despite it being twice as ambitious. Meanwhile, as the Houston Chronicle reported earlier this month, hiring in Texas is surging thanks to vaccinations and stimulus money — a sign that President Biden’s aggressive approach to fighting the pandemic is getting our state economy back on track.
Here are some of the key wins that President Biden and Vice President Harris have achieved for Texas in just 100 days in office:
President Biden put money in the pockets of 85 percent of American families. Thanks to the $1,400 stimulus checks distributed last month, families across the country got help to pay for rent and put food on the table — and our economy is already benefiting, as retail sales also soared well past expectations last month. Every single Republican in Congress voted against this relief money, including all Texas Republican members of the U.S. House and disgraced Texas Senators John Cornyn and Ted “Cancun” Cruz.
President Biden has gotten 200 million vaccine doses to Americans. This is double the President’s original goal for vaccine distribution in his first 100 days. Thanks to President Biden’s strong push to get Americans vaccinated, Texans are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, after more than a year of fearing for their safety and their loved ones. Again: every single Republican in Congress voted against the funding that made this possible.
President Biden delivered the most consequential piece of legislation for working families in modern American history. The American Rescue Plan was a historic response to the moment of crisis we face and is creating jobs, getting crucial support to families, and putting us back on track to defeat the virus. One more time for the folks in the back: every Texas Republican in Congress voted “no” to sending Americans stimulus checks, “no” to funding vaccine distribution, and “no” to getting our country back on track.
Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:
“President Biden has pushed past every goal and achieved incredible progress for people across our country during his first 100 days in office. In just 100 days, he’s put money in the pockets of 85 percent of American families, gotten 200 million vaccine doses to Americans, and helped countless families see the light at the end of the tunnel after a long, dark year of coping with COVID-19.
“We are back on track thanks to President Biden. Texans are getting vaccinated, getting back to work, and feeling the relief of knowing our loved ones are more protected against COVID-19. We are finally rounding the bend, and that’s because of Democratic leadership.”
