Texas Democrats Recognize Deborah Peoples, Candidate for Fort Worth Mayor, Through Project LIFT Program
AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Democratic Party (TDP) Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement announcing the recognition of Deborah Peoples, Fort Worth mayoral candidate and Tarrant County Democratic Party chair, as a Project LIFT (Local Investment in the Future of Texas) candidate:
“Deborah Peoples had an amazing first round and won the most votes of any of the 10 candidates for mayor. Now, as she heads to the runoffs for mayor of our state’s fifth-largest city, I am thrilled to announce that we are recognizing her through the Texas Democratic Party’s Project LIFT program. Project LIFT is designed to provide recognition and additional support for municipal candidates who identify as Democrats. While municipal offices are non-partisan, Democrats are investing in electing local leaders who are champions for Texas communities — and Deborah is the perfect example of a true community leader.
“As the chair of the Tarrant County Democratic Party, and a longtime resident of Fort Worth, Deborah has done the work of building a better Tarrant County and a better Texas for decades. She is committed to tackling our most pressing issues, such as improving and updating our infrastructure, education, our broken criminal justice system, and caring for our seniors.
“Deborah grew up participating in the Civil Rights movement and peacefully marching for justice, and she will continue to be an ally to those seeking fair treatment, opportunities and good governance in Fort Worth.
“Deborah has proven time and again to be a visionary leader capable of creating major progress for Texans. Due in large part to her leadership, Texas Democrats made history by turning Tarrant County blue during the 2020 presidential election.
“We are extremely proud to recognize Deborah as one of our Project LIFT candidates and we are excited to fully support her for Fort Worth mayor.”
