Texas Democrats Praise Biden’s Latest Executive Order to Protect American Consumers and Workers
AUSTIN, Texas — President Biden signed an executive order Friday that will benefit workers and consumers across the country. The President’s order includes 72 initiatives in which he has directed more than a dozen federal agencies to crack down on anti-competitive practices across the employment and commercial industries, including the health care and prescription drug market.
Some of the changes in the order will make it easier to change jobs and help raise wages by banning or limiting non-compete agreements and unnecessary, cumbersome occupational licensing requirements that impede economic mobility.
The order also instructs HHS to develop a plan to stop price gouging in the pharmaceutical market, allows easier import of prescription drugs from Canada , and allows hearing aids to be sold over the counter.
And in a time when so many have needed fast, affordable and reliable access to the internet, President Biden is making it easier to get better internet for less by banning certain fees such as early termination and getting rid of landlord exclusivity arrangements for tenants.
Other initiatives in the executive order will make it easier to get refunds from airlines, allow consumers to make repairs on items they own, and end many abusive policies that hurt consumers and workers in the health care, insurance, tech, labor, and agricultural industries.

“The President’s announcement today is another reason why we are celebrating the resilience of America as we build back better. As Texas Democrats, we are very proud of the work President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are doing to not only help us get out of this pandemic safely, but also to grow our economy and make sure working families can share in our country’s progress. It is refreshing to see true leadership back in the White House and an Administration that cares truly and deeply about the American people.”
