2020 HCDP Resolutions Submitted to TDP

Democrats in Hays County collectively submitted 13 resolutions for consideration at the 2020 Hays County Democratic Party convention in March. Given the unusual circumstances of this year’s county convention being held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Texas Democratic Party (TDP) directed counties to send all resolutions to the TDP’s temporary resolutions committee for consideration at the state convention in June.

The following resolutions were submitted to TDP:

CONSTITUTIONAL REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY AND DEMOCRATIC NORMS

  • Resolution in support of requiring making tax returns public for federal and judicial candidates and officeholders
  • Resolution in support of limiting gift amounts allowed by public servants

CRIMINAL JUSTICE

  • Resolution in support of repealing the death penalty in Texas

EDUCATION

  • Resolution in support of the continued defined benefit system in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas
  • Resolution for a relevant funding mechanism for TRS-Care stability and sustainability

ENVIRONMENT

  • Resolution in support of limiting single-use plastic straws

FINANCE

  • Resolution in support of changing property assessment in Texas

GUNS

  • Resolution in support of ending the sale of high-velocity weapons
  • Resolution in support of red-flag warning laws

LABOR

  • Resolution in support of alternatives to daylight saving time (DST)

VOTING RIGHTS AND DEMOCRATIC REFORMS

  • Resolution in support of implementing ranked choice or instant runoff voting (RCV/IRV) in Texas primaries and general elections
  • Resolution in support of electing the President by popular vote, joining the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact
  • Resolution in support of more diverse early primary states
