Ready to Run in Hays County – Candidate Filing Period is Open
The candidate filing period is open and runs through Monday, December 9th. In Hays County,
The Hays County Democrats office will be staffed from 11 AM – 1 PM and on every Saturday between now and Dec. 9th. Other hours are Tuesdays 11 AM – 1 PM and Thursdays 5 PM – 7 PM. On Monday, Dec. 9, the final filing date, office will be staffed from 2 PM to 6 PM. Precinct Chair candidates may also file during this time. Office is located at 215 W. San Antonio Suite 2005 in San Marcos.
Due to the high population growth in Hays County, many precincts are being split into multiple precincts. The precincts being split are 113 (adding 114 and 115), 120 (adding 121, 122, 123 and 126), 127 (adding 128), 129 (adding 130 and 220), 221 (adding 222), 224 (adding 227 and 235), 228 (adding 231 and 233), 336 (adding 340), 337 (adding 338), 443 (adding 446), and 444 (adding 445 and 448).
To file an application to be a Democratic precinct chair, use the following form:
Saturday, November 9, 2019 – First day to file for all other candidates for offices that are regularly scheduled to be on the Primary ballot.
Monday, December 9th – Last day to file an application for a place on the primary ballot, or for the office of county chair or precinct chair.

December 9th. Last day Democratic or Republican Party candidate may file an application for a place on the primary ballot (6 p.m.). Tex. Elec. Code Ann. § 172.023(a).
NOTE: This is also for applications for an unexpired term in a state or county office that occurred on or before the 10th day before the date of the filing deadline. TEC § 202.004(b). See entry at December 16, 2019 for Extended Deadlines.
Last day county chairs may accept applications for a place on the ballot for office of county or precinct chair (6 p.m.). Tex. Elec. Code Ann. § 172.023(a).
