Major Vaccine Wins Today Thanks To President Biden’s Aggressive Vaccination Campaign
AUSTIN, Texas — Today, thanks to the Biden Administration’s hard work on vaccine access and distribution, Texans and people across the country are celebrating major victories in the fight to beat back COVID-19.
Starting today, all Americans age 16 and up are eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine across the country. On Sunday, the Biden-Harris administration announced that 50 percent of U.S. adults have received at least one shot — and after blowing past their initial vaccination goal 42 days early, the administration is on track to provide 200 million vaccinations by President Biden’s 100th day in office. That means nearly two thirds of the population will soon be at least partially vaccinated — a major step towards rounding the bend in the pandemic, made possible by Biden’s aggressive approach to distributing vaccines and tackling COVID-19.
Countless Texas families are seeing a light at the end of the tunnel thanks to these successes, delivered via President Biden’s American Rescue Plan. Every Republican in Congress voted against this crucial relief and vaccine funding — including all Texas Republican members of the U.S. House and disgraced Texas Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz. Meanwhile, Black and Latino communities are still vastly underrepresented in vaccine access because of Texas Republicans’ mismanaged vaccine rollout and Governor Abbott’s refusal to prioritize communities of color in vaccine distribution.
Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:
“Texas Democrats are celebrating the incredible progress President Biden is making to tackle the pandemic. Starting today, every American age 16 and up is eligible to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The Biden-Harris administration is working every day to get vaccinations available to as many people as possible, and now, one out of two American adults has now received at least the first dose.
“With these wins, and the impressive pace of vaccinations we’ve seen throughout the last three months, we are finally starting to round the bend in the fight against this pandemic. For people worried about keeping their loved ones safe and healthy, for small businesses fighting to stay afloat, for workers whose jobs have been in limbo, the message is clear: the end is finally in sight, thanks to President Biden.”
