Hays County Democrats Looking Forward to 2019
Election ’18 is behind us and the results were record breaking. WE TURNED HAYS COUNTY BLUE!
Our primary focus was on voter turnout. For the November 2018 election 80,500 citizens voted out of 135,852 registered voters, or 59.25 % of the electorate. The Democratic vote was 51.84% of the total, the Republican vote was 47.24%. These numbers represent a huge improvement over past elections. Moreover, our Democratic candidates won their races for County Judge (Ruben Becerra), County Clerk (Elaine Cardenas), and two Justices of the Peace (Beth Smith and Scott Cary), and JP (Maggie Moreno) who won her primary race. And in the election for the open HR 45 seat, Erin Zwiener will be our new State Representative. In those races we did not win, our candidates invariably performed well, giving us reason to be even more hopeful for the future.
