For New Voters in Hays County

Democratic Primary 2018 – Feb. 20 – Mar. 2 – Election Day Tuesday, March 6, 2018

What do I need to bring to the ballot box in order to be able to vote? Visit the VoteTexas website for a list of acceptable forms of ID https://www.votetexas.gov/register-to-vote/need-id.html

Where can I vote during Early Voting? In Hays County, you can vote at any of the Early Voting sites during the early voting period which runs 2/20 through 3/2. On Election Day, you must vote in your own Precinct. Find the Precinct map here http://www.co.hays.tx.us/precinct-maps-1.aspx and find the list of Democratic Precinct Chairs here https://www.hayscountydemocrats.org/precinct-chairs/

How do I actually cast my vote? Hays County uses an electronic voting system. For more information about voting visit the Elections FAQ page http://www.co.hays.tx.us/frequently-asked-questions.aspx

Where can I find a sample ballot? The Hays County Elections Division publishes a sample ballot and you can find it here http://www.co.hays.tx.us/march-6-2018-primary-election.aspx  Your ballot will vary based on your precinct. For example, if your precinct is in San Marcos city limits, then you will have additional candidates or propositions to vote compared to voters who live in Buda.

How long are the lines to vote? During Early Voting, some locations may have a minimal wait time. During the last day of early voting, nearly all locations will experience some wait times. This is only based on past voting patterns and is not meant to be a guarantee. On Election Day, the wait time will vary by location.

Will my employer allow me to take time off to vote? You will need to check with your employer regarding their policy around voting. Most employers tend to be flexible but you should consult with your employer before taking time off to vote.
