Mary Wilson for Congress, US House District 21

Mary Wilson is a progressive Democrat running to represent the 21st District of Texas in Congress. Mary is a fierce advocate for social justice, as a pastor and as an educator. Mary has spent 20 years in the classroom and 16 years as the pastor of a local congregation. Wilson is passionate about caring for people, building community, and bringing people together.

Mary grew up as the middle child in a family of five children.  Math was her first love in school and hence, her first career. She started her professional career teaching in a small rural middle school in Oklahoma, Leander High School right here in Texas, and urban schools in St. Louis and New York.  After completing her Master’s degree in Mathematics from SUNY-New Paltz, Mary continued her education career at Austin Community College as both a teacher and administrator.

Mary went on to study theology, her other love, at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary.  She focused on course work related to the philosophy of science, philosophy of religion, and social justice.  Since Mary has been a pastor at Church of the Savior she has partnered with organizations that focus on housing the homeless, feeding those who are hungry, interfaith dialogue, LGBTQIA rights, women’s reproductive rights, compassion for immigrants, and for those whose voices have been disregarded.  As an advocate and activist, Mary has demonstrated her passion for people over profit, care and compassion over money, and justice over convenience.

Mary is the proud mother of two adult daughters, and also the happy grandma of two little boys. Mary Wilson lives in Austin, Texas with her spouse, Betty McDaniel.  With such a wonderful family, everyday is a day of laughter and love!
