Les Carnes shares why he is running to represent HD 45
I am running for the following reasons:
Protect our water resource and preserve the quality of life for our counties. Sustainable water use policies must be adopted in the statutes to assure the future of aquifers.
Teachers must be paid more and the benefits brought under control. The state must increase its contribution to education to lift the burden off the local taxing jurisdictions.
I strongly believe and support with my money and time the following:
I worked to stop Electro Purification from drilling wells and depleting our water resources and organized the first water forum in January 2015 to fight this for-profit water transfer.
I was a founding member of the Hays County Water Planning Partnership and the San Marcos Area Democrats.
I am a firm believer in women’s health and give monthly to Planned Parenthood.
I support the CHIPS program and had relatives that benefited the program.
I am a firm believer in workers’ rights and give monthly to the Workers Defense Project. I have been a union member for more than 33 years (ATU-1549, TSEU and currently AFSCME).
I have lived in Hays County for more than 20 years and have been intimately involved in many issue campaigns from water to roads to redistricting.
I have spent the last 40 plus years working with Democrat Party campaigns in various capacities. I give monthly to the Hays County Democratic Party and served as treasurer from 2011-2017.
I began the “free sign campaign” in Hays county as I believe it shouldn’t cost anything to be a Democrat. This is NOT Travis county, we’re Hays County Democrats in Hays county.
I retired from the State Comptrollers’ Office after 27 years working in Revenue Accounting, Criminal Investigation and Local Government Assistance divisions.
I was born and raised in San Antonio by a public school teacher and a civil service worker. I have a degree in economics with teaching certification in secondary education from the University of Texas, Austin. Education should not be a burden for life, it should be a treasure. The cost must come down.
